The Minister of Justice Simon Power said that Scott Watson would finally know the answer to his 3 year old application for Justice under the Crimes Act by Election Day, 4 days from now.
But there's a problem. After 3 years the lawyer appointed to investigate the application appears to have decided that there was no 'new' evidence to support the claim. But hold on, she seems to have overlooked evidence of witnesses confirming that their original id of Scott was incorrect. What a torrid 3 years it must have been for her, pretending to be doing nothing while actually doing nothing.
So Scott won't know by Election time his fate, instead he'll continue to endure the slow death of false imprisonment.
Just a minute. It seems Scott's lawyer Greg King, has pointed out to the investigating lawyer, and the Minister, that there is in fact 'new' evidence, to go with the other 'old' evidence that shows Scott is innocent. But the Minister can't make a decision on the basis of common sense, or refer to a Court, because he needs to consider it at length. In fact right until he leaves office and the file becomes the property of another Minister.
This is how Scott Watson is killed.
He is denied his rights while timely haste is denied him in his prison cell.
So do you and me deny him, if but for a minute we look away.
I have emailed Power numerous times with no effect graphically stating he should grow some balls and make a decision prior to leaving office..but no doubt he will just slither away
ReplyDeleteThere is something to be said about answering letters, particularly with elected officials or public servants, it goes beyond common courtesy to the expectation from members of the public that they are entitled to be heard and given a response.
ReplyDeleteThere is something particularly weird about the Watson case (I call it that for now) in that Trade Me in particular have moderated threads more thoroughly than others raising other controversial cases and in many situations simply seem to stop threads running. Additionally, there is the fact that Scott Watson hasn't got an attendant haters club, or a vocal organisation perpetually telling lies about him.
For some reason the reaction to the case generally is slightly off chord and perhaps it is because of the grave doubts over some of the more obvious factors, that Scott had no motive to committ such crimes, that the evidence against him was largely circumstantial and the most obvious that there was campaign to 'get him' that relied on finding things that hadn't been there before, extrapolating facts or evidence into almost surreal 'significance' followed by serious flaws being revealed in identity evidence and that of paid informers.
I would have respected Simon Power had he shown the guts of a street fighting Muldoon to brush aside the bs and courtroom pomp and officiousness and let this victim of injustice go. There are a ton of reasons that allowed him to do that, he simply didn't have the courage, conviction or that which would distinguish him as serving the integrity of the law.
A sad day for justice now Nats are back in with the slimmest of margin..actually a rigged election considering the tea pot saga which is yet to be fully realised..Now Power has let no guesses who the new Minister of Justice will be..Banks was once Minister of Police so will be a shoe in for the post..we can expect more of the same coverups and whitewash
